So, this blog piece was inspired by an article that came out in LadBible (which I love their stories), based upon this lady putting other girls and women on blast for what they are wearing at the club, in a TikTok video.
Here’s the article with my add-ons and op-ed at the bottom. Original article link can be found at bottom.
According to Gen Z, you’re old if you wear this type of shoe when you’re out and about.
It seems like the youngsters have started a new trend, which comes after their campaign to ban the ‘thumbs up’ emoji and the generation’s take on phrases that are cool (YOLO is boomer talk).
This one though, is all to do with fashion, particularly with women when they want to go out for a night on the town.
A TikTok from July has gone viral, with almost six million views at the time of writing.
The landscape of nightlife looks very different nowadays, and it’s been driven by the younger generation, as the picture, which is taken in a local bar on a Friday night, shows something that almost every woman in shot has in common with each other.

Several older social media users have been quick to criticise the way things have become because they believe that things were better in their time.

That’s right, young women in the picture are all wearing a nice top, jeans and trainers on their big Friday night out.
The jeans and top are a millennial thing too, but the line is drawn at the choice of footwear, as several people agreed that nobody over the age of 30 would go clubbing with flat footwear.
It’s something often seen in movies, women clutching their heels in their hands while walking around barefoot because of the pain they inflict on their toes and feet.
But this generation seems to have put comfort over style when it comes to footwear, maybe influenced by trends on social media.
Who knew that being comfortable on your night out enhanced your enjoyment?
It’s a sure-fire way to identify other young people, with popularity in high-heels reaching an all-time low, as young women continue to enjoy the freedom of flat footwear.
Older users in the comments section of the video weighed in on the new trend, as one said: “In a sea of mom jeans, be a green dress lady.”
Another posted: “OMG I would have hated this when I was in my 20s. The best part of going out was getting all dolled up.”
A third shared: “I remember when we couldn’t enter if we had jeans on.”
A different user added: “They alllllll said *copy and paste*.”
Someone else commented: “Bring back Paris Hilton club fashion.”
I must admit I have a nice lil’ collection of sneakers. I also have high heels, I just don’t wear them hardly anymore. However, I do have nice platform sneakers in a variety of styles. It is either that, or my crazy assortment of flipflops, and sandals. Thus always have a rocking pedicure. Lol.
As for jeans, I love my overalls. I have some very cool jeans too. Plus, a mass assortment of pants, and slacks. But I really love my overalls. I’m currently on the hunt for a killer jean skirt. I’m also a big time baggy spaghetti strap tank top girl.
Now that I think about it, I’ve been dressing casual chic fun (look good) comfy, for days (you do more day parties when older), and nights out, for decades. Even when I went out clubbing in my 20s. I mean I like to dance (sweat baby, sweat), and I get nervous when I sing in crowds (viva la Karaoke or on stage; less sweat, but still).
So is this a new trend really? I mean there is still a time and place to get glammed up. But, just to go clubbing or dancing, completely not practical.
What do you think?

I still look club or bar appropriate. But, I definitely have more fun in them. Picking up some Doc Marten Mary Janes soon I think. I have a thing for them these days. Mary Jane style shoes that is.
